[full video – may contain disturbing images for some]
This story is been on my mind all weekend. I am the dad of two boys – and I would be lying to say that I’ve never lost sight of my two boys as they were growing up – so judge me if you want…or be honest and admit you have done the same thing. SO, my heart goes out to the mom who lost track of her son for a moment. In that moment, he wound up in a terrifying situation.
Her son, evidently tried to climb up on the barrier around the enclosure and lost his balance, fell over a shrub into the moat around the Gorilla Exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo. Zookeepers were able to coax away all other gorillas in the exhibit but their large male Gorilla, Harambe, stayed with the boy.
Some thought the silverback was protecting the boy, but after the gorilla started dragging the boy through the moat the decision was made by the zoo’s emergency response team put the gorilla down and rescue the boy.
As an animal lover, my heart breaks – a thousand times it breaks, but a child’s life is THE MOST important thing. Here at THE BULL, Our thoughts go out for a quick recovery for the boy, and to the zoo and those tasked with making this heart-breaking decision, also the family of the boy as they deal with the social media backlash.
